Hi Kulbir,

I have ATI card and I am trying 2x23" samsung monitor. I am using fedora 12. However, my monitors are exactly of same config. I do not get the same resolution - using dual VGA port. While I am using the second VGA port it is always giving me bad resolution. Even when I am using only one monitor with the 2nd VGA port.
I predict it is something to do with the ATI card itself. Could you help me on that?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Dear Kulbir,

I was planning to try this multiple desktop thing for a few weeks. I was affraid to fail and spend too much time on it. But I found this article and It just took 10 minutes for me to work with two monitors. I will share the link of this article on my own blog if you dont mind.

Adam,

I think ATI is trying hard. They are rolling out new versions quickly now.

If you choose to use the free software driver (radeon or radeonhd), the steps consist of:

1) run gnome-display-properties
2) drag and drop the screens to be organized in the way you want

I really cannot understand why NVIDIA and ATI can't just implement RandR 1.2 already. Sigh.

If xorg miscomputes the dpi in your system, please do not add yet another ugly workaround on the internet, but complain to ATI so they fix their driver.

OTOH if it computes the correct value, but you don't like the default font sizes, ping the GNOME maintainers so they make it easier to change the default font sizes (without changing the meaning of font units behind the application back to workaround the lack of a convenient font preferences UI)

DPI is not a font size unit. It's a technical parameters users should not have to touch ever
