McAfee actually PAYS Dell to put the 30-day trial on their box. It’s essentially an ad, so when the 30 days are up people buy from them and not a competitor.

Adobe Reader is a free download for Linux.

The Dell Windows box also has other “free trial” software, as well as things that are basically ads. The crapware vendors give Dell so much money that it basically pays for the OEM Windows license.

And that’s why you won’t save money by saying you want Linux, or no OS at all. The net cost to Dell is near-zero.

@Joe cool bit of find! I never really knew there was so much into the “free stuff” which came with my dell lappy If this is the case, we should have an option of adding more crapware in the “Configure Myself” section so that we can get Vista Ultimate rather than Home Premium. We can always uninstall all the crap once we get the machine!!

I would buy the windows version and sell the disk, install ubuntu,ditch the 8 gig on ebay for a 32 or 64 gig runcore pro and walk away happy.(and pretty much upgraded for free.
